CBD for Endometriosis

Could CBD Cure Endometriosis Naturally? We list clinical studies.

In short, maybe— CBD can treat endometriosis, but we are not certain that CBD can cure endometriosis. It can alleviate the pain, decrease inflammation, destroy the alien endometrial cells and prevent them from multiplying, and prevent an autoimmune response. But we are yet to prove the correlation between an endometriosis cure and cannabinoids. Studies listed below:

It is also widely accepted in the medical community that cannabinoids could be the best treatment which has led to a promising clinical trial, studying the effect of cannabinoids in patients with deep endometriosis. It is a double-blind study on women.

Mello Bottoms, our CBD suppositories, anecdotally, are also proving to be a treatment for our customers who suffer from endometriosis.

Our ECS maintains the cells and systems responsible for endometriosis.

*ECS – Endocannabinoid system – A system of receptors (CB1 and CB2) that regulate the balance in our CNS and PNS, inflammation, immune system, and hormones.

The most promising study shows that modulation of the ECS through therapeutic doses of cannabinoids could be the key to real endometriosis treatment. This study shows a link between the systems maintained by the ECS and our body’s endometrial cells. And draws the conclusion that if we regulate our ECS we could actually treat and maybe cure endometriosis.

A second study out of the UK studied the link between our *ECS and endometriosis. The research showed that women without endometriosis had well functioning CB1 and CB2 receptors. But, women with endometriosis had very sluggish ones. Our ECS system needs cannabinoids to keep it functioning effectively. Thus, perhaps daily cannabinoids could help women with endometriosis combat the disorder.

Cannabinoids can alleviate the brain fog associated with Endometriosis

A recent study showed that Cannabinoids can improve endometriosis symptoms in mice. It showed that those mice who had endo experienced anxiety and pain which affected their cognitive function. But when given cannabinoids their cognitive function improved, drawing the hypothesis that their anxiety and pain from the endo was the cause of their brain fog.

Cannabinoids could help the body destroy the ‘alien; endometrial cells and prevent them from spreading.

It is also widely accepted that endometrial cells behave in the same way as cancer cells, BUT BENIGN. So when referencing other studies that prove phtyo-cannabinoids could help endometriosis we can reference cancer + Cannabis studies. This study shows cannabinoids stop tumor cells from growing in mice. Mice given cannabinoids were able to destroy alien cells in their bodies. Endometrial cells growing outside your uterus are ‘alien’ cells. Potentially if you feed an endo patient the phytocannabinoid CBD their body will begin to destroy these alien cells. This has also been proven here and here.

Cannabinoids are effective analgesics and alleviate pain.

Often the collection of endo cells can develop a very rich population of nerve endings, causing serious pain. Studies have shown that endocannabinoids help regulate nerve growth and their receptors —CBD can desensitize our nerves, by preventing the nerve receptors from being turned on, so we do not get the message to our brain about the pain. More here and here.

Cannabinoids can combat the auto-immune issues you can get from Endometriosis by decreasing inflammation.

When you have endo your body is confused and can start to attack all the cells in your body, as it does not know what to do with the dead cells. Studies show your ECS can prevent the body’s inflammatory response when stimulated with additional Phytocannabinoids, like CBD. Another study shows how CBD can also reduce the body’s T-cells proliferation, and is a promising treatment of auto-immune disease.

What is Endometriosis?

Endometriosis often called ‘endo’ occurs when your endometrial cells grow outside your uterus. The endometrium cells are perfectly healthy if they stay inside your uterus —our period is the monthly shedding of those cells.

But, when they grow in other parts of your vagina, your bowel, bladder, or rectum they cause severe pain and discomfort. These cells behave every month the same way as our healthy ‘period cells’ —the tissue will grow, thicken, and break down. Over time, the dead tissue has nowhere to go and becomes trapped and inflamed. This is more common than you think, 11% of women have this condition in the US

Endometriosis Treatment

Currently, endometriosis has no cure. If we can cure an erection we should be able to cure this, but we can’t, yet. So doctors use medication to try to treat the endometriosis symptoms, and at times encourage surgery to remove the dead tissue. Endometriosis surgery is very invasive and often will have to be performed more than once.

We do strongly believe that therapeutic doses of CBD, can be a potential treatment of endometriosis. If we regulate the ECS we could stop endometriosis flare-ups, and decrease the pain and inflammation associated with endometriosis. We recommend taking our Mello Bottoms, a rectal or vaginal suppository that packs 75MG of CBD. We recommend taking this three days before your expected flow.

Endometriosis Symptoms

Periods suck, every *28 days we have to endure it. But can you imagine having your monthly also showing up in your bowel? The most common symptom of endometriosis is chronic pain and inflammation. But there are various symptoms:

  1. Very severe PMS pain.
  2. Chronic back and lower pelvis pain.
  3. Painful sex, which occurs deep inside your vagina, during sex not upon generation.
  4. Blood in your stool or urine.
  5. Heavy periods and spotting between your periods.
  6. Infertility
  7. Digestion issues —often called endo belly.

Endometriosis Causes

No one knows yet. But the most popular and longest-held is that Menstrual blood accidentally flows the wrong way. This seems whacky but it is widely accepted and is termed ‘Retrograde Menstrual Flow’. Doctors believe that the main cause of endometriosis is when some of your menstrual blood (containing endometrial cells) flows the wrong way and heads out your fallopian tubes to other parts of your body.

Lately, more doctors are beginning to believe that our Endocannabinoid System may play a large role in endometriosis. And could actually cause endometriosis flare-ups when not operating effectively. This study shows that ECS modulation through therapeutic doses of cannabinoids could be a potential cure to combat endometriosis.

Other potential causes of endometriosis:

Genetics – it may just run in your family.

Faulty Immune System – Perhaps a little menstrual blood does leak to other parts of your body, doctors believe your body should be able to destroy this. So your immune system is to blame.

Hormones – estrogen feeds endometrial cells. So is your body producing too much?

Previous Surgery – perhaps during a lower abdomen surgery, like a c-section, endometrial cells may have been picked up and moved somewhere else.
