Why Doesn't CBD Work For Me? - Mello Daily CBD

CBD Doesn’t Work

Journal Back to Archive09.6.19

You’ve been in pain for a while now. Someone mentioned a brand of CBD gummies that has worked miracles for them, so you do some research, read tons of glowing reviews, and decide to click “Add to Cart.” The gummies arrive and you can’t wait to throw out your pain meds. You take your first dose… and feel nothing. You take one more, and still, feel nothing. No miracle cure, your pain is still there. Did you do something wrong? Did you get stuck with fake CBD? Is it all a myth?

CBD is a cannabinoid, and the body requires cannabinoids to function effectively.

Ideally, your body would produce enough cannabinoids to keep your Endocannabinoid System (ECS) powering. But under the stress of life, an injury, or an illness, your body may not do this. We can take CBD regularly to replenish our ECS. But much like when we are dehydrated, our bodies need to build up the stores in our system before we feel or notice any difference. So, when you take the recommended dose of CBD, you may only be making up for a deficiency. And what you need to do is have an excess of cannabinoids to feel the bliss effects.

We have identified a few areas that may shine some light on why CBD is not working for you ~

Watch your dosage.

You may need to take more than the recommended dosage of a product to feel the ‘bliss’ effect. And you may need to take that dosage for an extended period. Your biology is unique and may require a refill of cannabinoids to reach a place of homeostasis. So, a daily dosage that works for one person may not work for another. If you are taking the recommended dosage and do not feel any effects after 3 days, slowly increase your dosage daily and keep a journal to track your response.

Another reason it may not work for you is due to how you’ve chosen to consume it.

Using a single method to take your CBD can be effective for some, but we recommend you mix up the way you consume it. If you are already taking a daily oil, try adding a topical cream or pain patch for localized pain. If capsules are your morning jam, try a small edible before bed to help you sleep soundly. As Monica told Chandler in Friends, the best way to reach the Big O is by mixing it up, not staying in one zone!

Check the quality.

Make sure your product is sourced from a grower who values plants rich in pure cannabinoids that have been grown sustainably and without pesticides. There are so many CBD companies claiming they have the purest product and highest concentration but fail to share their test results and/or mislabel their products. Recent testimony during the FDA hearing about CBD revealed severe inconsistencies in CBD products. If the price seems too good to be true, it most likely is. Check the labels and know your sources. Lucky for you, we’ve done the vetting for you ~ all of our products are from growers that are happy to share their test results, have clear labels, and share the ingredient sources in their products.

Know your terms ~ Full Spectrum vs. Broad Spectrum vs. Isolate CBD.

In very simple terms, Full Spectrum means the plant in its most natural form. So jammed with cannabinoids (CBD and THC), plus the terpenes, phytonutrients, antioxidants, and fatty acids. Broad Spectrum is all the above but without the THC. And Isolate contains ONLY CBD. We recommend a full spectrum product as believe CBD works more efficiently with all its buddies, AKA the entourage effect.

The truth is, the way CBD interacts with each person will vary ~ we are all unique and our body’s biology reacts differently to all substances.

And remember, CBD is best used as a supplement – not a medication. Many of the potential long-term effects, including the reduction of inflammation or anxiety management, require daily dosing over an extended period. Giving yourself (and your ECS) time to adjust to the additional cannabinoids present in your system will take time. So, be patient ~ revisit your dosage, make sure you are using the right dosing method for you, and make sure you only use high-quality products.
