CBD, Your Period & You

CBD, Your Period & You

It’s that dreaded time of the month again — and no, we’re not talking about rent week. We’re talking about the other week that causes you pain and frustration: YOUR PERIOD WEEK.

Unfortunately, pain and periods go hand-in-hand for many of us. The aches, tenderness, fatigue, cramps and headaches can really put a damper on those dreaded days of the month. And while you can combat some of those symptoms with your preferred drugstore pain reliever, it’s hard to find something that addresses the moodiness and depression that can present during that time, too.

While you might just want to curl up at home with a pint of gelato in one hand and a heating pad held next to your stomach in the other, the sad truth is that you just can’t. The world keeps turning, and you’ve got shit to do. But instead of hauling yourself to the office with a fake smile and a pill bottle as your closest companion, you can make your periods painless with CBD.

Interested, but don’t know where to start? Here’s our recommendation:

If you’re experiencing full body pain as well as the psychological effects of your period, take a pill capsule, sublingual (oil), vape or edible to combat your general symptoms. But if you’re just dealing with physical pain in certain areas, we’d suggest a topical option like a roll-on, cream or patch to target that specific spot. Boom.

But how does CBD work?

Here’s what we know: cannabidiol (CBD) is a cannabinoid that has been shown to reduce pain and inflammation. According to a study by the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine (you know, those guys), “In adults with chronic pain, patients who were treated with cannabis or cannabinoids are more likely to experience a clinically significant reduction in pain symptoms.”

The science might sound daunting, but we promise it’s pretty easy to follow. Basically, cannabinoids help you out by affecting the release of your brain’s neurotransmitters. These neurotransmitters then fire off chemical messages across your body having to do with physical and psychological functions. Those functions (we’re talkin’ anxiety, pain and sleep) then feel the effects. Short, sweet and to the point.

So now that we’ve “Bill Nye the Science Guy”-d the scientific background of CBD, let’s talk about those symptoms it can help with.

For starters there’s the physical problems you’re probably encountering, things like: breast tenderness, back aches, muscle aches and cramps. Then there’s the psychological: anxiety, moodiness, depression and insomnia. No matter what your period week cocktail of symptoms might be, the one thing that’s for certain is the fact that you’re sick of dealing with them.

Of all the PMS relief products out there, we have to say that CBD is our favorite. Whether it’s a spiked gummy, oil or vape pen, there’s plenty of options to explore so you can find the one that’s perfect for your period. We might be a little biased, but we’ve also felt the natural relief that it provides — and you can too.

Kick those stubborn period symptoms out of your life like they’re a bad partner that doesn’t like your Instagram pictures, baby. You deserve more — and by more, we mean CBD.
